The Autcompletionist
What?Inspiration ︎
The Autocompletionist is a generative writing project inspired by the limitations and rules used in the five obstructions movie. The writing tools used for The Autocompletionist included Predictive text feature of Apple iOS device (Notes app), a dictionary to locate words in alphabetical order with respect to parts of speech they belong to (noun, verb, adjective, etc), Grammarly App and Google search engine.
How?The process had four cycles that followed alphabetical index. There wereself-crafted rules for each cycle using writing tools. The sentences were typed out on the iOS Notes App using Apple’s Predictive feature. Predictive text is an input technology that facilitates typing on a mobile device by suggesting words the end user may wish to insert in a text field.

The Five Obstructions is a 2003 Danish documentary film directed by Lars von Trier and Jørgen Leth. In 1967, Leth made a 12 minute feature film called The Perfect Human. Lars von Trier challenged Jorgen Leth to remake his film five times, each time with a new obstruction to force Leth to rethink the story and characters of the original film.
